Harriett Morton

arts / visual artists / harriett morton

Harriett working on a painting, Sarasota, Winter 2001; below, XXX, acrylic on board; below, bat mask in clay and acrylic.

With a 30-year body of surrealist work in painting and sculpture, Harriett Morton gently leads the viewer into her personal mythology. She came to Tucson in 2001 from her home state of Florida, where shows of her paintings often led to accusations of witchcraft. She misses the water but loves Tucson's open acceptance of diversity -- and magic.

OCCUPATION:

"Artist."

QUOTE:

"Reality is relative, imagination is everything."

LIFE STORY IN BRIEF:

"Rooted in Florida from adolesence into the turn of the century. Taking refuge in the real and surreal realm of my artwork. I have spent the years searching into the personal mythology that has become my canvas. Pushed by the universe, and my son who continually echoed, "get out of Florida!," I packed up home and beasts to resonate with the mountains that engulf Tucson. So here I stand knee deep in clay, spattered with paint, restarting my existence into whatever evolves before me."

BORN IN:

"Sarasota, Florida."

ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE TUCSON:

"Home."

WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN ON THE LOCAL SCENE:

"My studio, Interface Guru's downtown office, Blue Willow, rocknhound sites around Tucson."

"Multitude of paintings, limited edition prints, visionary art cards, original sculpture, hollow bones boxes, masks, spirithealers."
